Willus.com's DOSBox Setup Help |
GET DOSBOX AND INSTALL IT DOSBox is a DOS emulator which you can download from DOSBox.com. It allows 64-bit Windows such as Windows 7 and Windows Vista to run older DOS programs like my U.S. States Quiz program, but it's not completely obvious how to use it, so here are some instructions to help you. First download the Windows version of DOSBox it and install it on your computer. OPTION 1: DRAG AND DROP If you now have the DOSBox icon and the icon for the game you want to run on your desktop, you may simply drag the game icon onto the DOSBox icon to run the game. This is the easiest way to run the game. Press ALT-ENTER to go full screen after the game has started. OPTION 2: AN ICON TO LAUNCH THE GAME Right-click the DOSBox icon and drag it to a new spot on your desktop. When you release the right mouse button, you'll get a menu with an option to create a shortcut. Select that option. Now right-click the DOSBox shortcut icon and choose Properties. In the Target: field, place the cursor just after the command that's already there ("...DOSBox.exe"), type a space, and then this: mygame.exe -fullscreen -noconsole Here, mygame.exe is the game you want to play. If it is not in the same folder as the DOSBox shortcut icon, you'll need to put in the full path to the game, e.g. c:\dosprograms\mygame.exe. The -fullscreen option is only necessary if you want the game to run in full screen mode. You should then be able to double-click the DOSBox shortcut icon to run the game. You can re-name it as you wish and even pick a different icon for it. |
